The man behind Statements in Steel
Marnus Roothman, BA Honours (Media Science), Assessor (SAQA) is a founder member of the National Press Club, and holds membership of the Capital City Business Chamber.
After a corporate career in marketing, publicity and public relations, he founded Marpro Enterprises, handling public relations, publicity, promotions, exhibitions, marketing, advertising, and printing for a wide variety of clients.
In 1994 he was invited to serve as co-director of the Institute for Dynamic Development, and shortly afterwards also founded a publishing and business training firm, Body & Mind Foundation
Marnus completed the Mastermind Marketing Programme of the Abraham Foundation – founded by international marketing guru Jay Abraham – in 1995, attending Abraham’s personal training in Los Angeles, USA.
He sold the printing side of Marpro Enterprises in 1994 and, after extensive preparation, launched the PrintAfford structured business group in 1997. The equally successful SignAfford package followed in February 2000.
Establishing 22 successful businesses in 22 months, PrintAfford SA was declared Winner of the Greater Pretoria Area, Provincial Winner Gauteng North, one of five National Finalists, and finally National Runner-up in the Old Mutual/AHI 1998 competition for Business Undertaking of the Year for excellent service provision (small business category).
Marnus is a specialist in practical marketing, advertising, and selling; and presents training seminars, workshops and talks on Communication Skills, Marketing, Selling, Marketing Strategy, Sales Chassis Plans and Presentation Skills, Client Service, Practical Motivation, Advertising, and Entrepreneurship.
In 2003 he also presented a series of highly successful business training sessions in Francistown, Botswana for young entrepreneurs nominated by the Botswana Youth Council.
Boasting 34 franchises (4 in Botswana), Marnus sold PrintAfford SA in 2002, and shifted his focus to developing Marketing Strategies for diverse business concerns. He also does creative copywriting, specializing in homepages for websites internationally.
In 2006 he was approached by a manufacturer of hand steel shaping equipment to assist him with formulating a marketing strategy for his firm. Marnus immediately recognised the potential of the equipment if applied within a proper business framework. He then set about developing a fully-fledged turn-key business opportunity.
This lead to the birth of Statements in Steel SA, built around the strengths of the equipment and the extensive business, marketing and entrepreneurship expertise and experience possessed by Marnus.
Early in 2008, he was approached by a South African engineer with a Masters Degree in Engineering and 20-odd years experience in the steelwork field, who had designed steel shaping equipment arguably superior to anything available in the South African and even international market. The equipment was intended for the international market, but was offered exclusively to Statements in Steel SA in South Africa.
Marnus jumped at the opportunity, which lead to the launching in June 2008 of the Executive Model of Statements in Steel.
The Standard Model using the original core equipment has been fazed out completely because of the superiority of the new core equipment, and the significant saving achieved in labour, time, and working space required.
